(More customer reviews)I recommend this auger over non-adjustable types. It can be adjusted between 6", 7" and 8" diameter holes. You never want a wider hole than necessary, as it filling it in (especially with concrete) is a lot more work with bigger holes (remember, the volume to be filled grows with the SQUARE of the growth in the diameter -- radius, actually). Also, if you are setting posts in bare ground, the smaller hole leaves the post closer to undisturbed earth, which is stronger than the dirt you fill and tamp in.
But sometimes you need bigger holes (bigger posts or heavier footings).
What do you want to do, own more than one auger? Get this one and effectively have three.
I wish it was adjustable to even wider and narrower diameters.
Let me say this in general about augers -- I can see no reason why anyone would prefer the "clamshell" post hole digger to an auger. The auger works much better (especially as the hole gets deeper) and it's a lot easier, too. The big-box home improvement shops only seem to stock the clamshells, though.
