(More customer reviews)This wooden step stool is pricey, but the wood, dovetailing and finish are beautiful, so the price is appropriate for a handcrafted item.
I bought it because I need the stability of the handle and I wanted a furniture look instead of having a metal step stool. Unfortunately, there are two things about it that are problems for me. These might not be problems for others, but are something to consider.
1.) The wooden handle is small and rounded at the top, and digs into my hand painfully when I put pressure on it as I use it for stability. If I only needed to touch it lightly for stability it wouldn't be a problem, but I need to put pressure on it. I use a folded washcloth to place on top of it to keep it from digging into the palm of my hand.
2.) The wooden step is so polished it is slick, just like a smooth, wooden floor, which could be a hazard. Many metal step stools have treads on them and are not so slippery. I fixed this by adding three narrow stick-on stair treads. Those don't detract from the appearance of the stool overall, and have eliminated that problem.
This stool, while cute and quaint appearing, isn't quite as useful as I had hoped. But, I've been able to make it work with the corrections I mentioned. If you don't need to rely on the handle for support, the hand discomfort wouldn't be a problem. But, you probably would still want to put two or three tread strips on the step, to be safer.
Apart from those two things--which might not bother you--I can vouch for the fact that it's a lovely bit of workmanship.
